If someone has broken into your property, it was likely through “lock snapping.” This method is not new to South Yorkshire but is gaining popularity in Sheffield. Most burglary repairs in Sheffield which we here at Hallam Locksmiths attend have to do with lock snapping.

What is lock snapping?

Most uPVC, composite, and sliding patio doors have locks called ‘euro profile cylinders.’ A simple technique can split these brass locks in half. To make matters worse, the handles are usually broken off as part of the process, leaving you with a mess.

What can be done to prevent lock snapping?

A few alternative options increase the security of your doors tenfold. A snap-proof lock can replace the euro cylinder. It prevents the cylinder from snapping in half. Different manufacturers use different processes to do this, but they all work well. Better-quality locks have added benefits. They are bump-proof, anti-drill, and anti-pick.

To protect your property from lock snapping, replace your locks with anti-snap ones.

More secure door handles, too…

The pas-24 insurance-approved handles are now available in the case of the handles. This new handle design protects the euro cylinder and gives off a visual deterrent. The design prevents thieves from gripping the handles with a pair of mole grips. The screws that hold the handles on are now more robust. This prevents them from breaking.

Unfortunately, they are not designed to fit every uPVC and composite door. Modern doors, yes, but older doors, most likely not. Hallam locksmith believes an Ultion WXM Plus cylinder will suffice. It will prevent unauthorised access. These locks look different from standard ones, creating a visual deterrent.
