Are you having problems with a uPVC window? Hallam Locksmiths specialise in repairing all uPVC windows, regardless of how old they are or who originally fitted them.
Repair… don’t replace your window
We often encounter customers who have been told that repairs can no longer be achieved because of their age. This is not true, but there is more profit to be had from a new installation than a repair! Fortunately, our suppliers are not installers and make every effort to source parts for us.
We estimate our success rate in repairing doors and windows is over 99%.
My window will not open
The most common occurrence is the window refuses to open. The handle still turns but refuses to push open. This is a clear sign the locking mechanism has failed. Called an espagnolette, we shorten it to “espag”, and it is there to keep your window secure and draught-free.
Possible reasons for failure can be wear and tear. Another reason can be corrosion- windows in bathrooms and kitchens encourage moisture, which can get into the espag and cause them to seize solid. There is also the option for just a part failure of the mechanism.
Please don’t worry; we have the skills and tools to open the window without damaging it. All parts can then be replaced with like for like, and your window will operate smoothly again.
There is a gap around the window edge
It’s a good sign that the hinges are the problem here. If a fault arises on the hinges, they will not pull fully in, leaving a gap that the air can force its way into. No problem, though. Hallam locksmiths can easily replace both hinges with the least fuss.
New window handles
If you lose your keys, we offer a selection of replacement white, gold, and silver handles. The handle will need replacing if it refuses to budge even when unlocked. We again have all the skills to open and replace the handle.
If you can supply any information from the windows, it will help give a more accurate quote over the phone.
